Elegant Faerie

Hey! An original! Can any of you guys tell what that is on his forhead? Give ya a hint: it's a symbol of Scotland! A true Scot would have noticed it right away or at least bugged them that they've seen it before, but if it's not ringing any bells even with the hint, I'm afraid you may have little hope knowing what it is. If you're one of those people (which most are) keep thinking abour it and read the rest of this through, it'll be at the bottom of the artist's comments.

Well, I wanted to draw a faerie (not to be confused with the common pixie) with floating jewels on his forhead like Fai's King Ashura from Tsubasa RC. However, I had a bit of a difficult time with it as I didn't want to draw Ashura. >.< I started out with a completely different picture of a full-body shot but I only realy wanted his face so I made this instead. CX

I tried SO hard to get this to look like a watercolored picture. Y'know, like what you would see on the cover of a Shojo manga; but it came out with just thin lines and soft shading... Oh well, love the backgroud, though.

Used Manga Studio Debut for inking- about 3-5 hours
Used PhotoShop Elements for colors about 2 hours max
Total time: about 4-5 hours

Still give up as to what that thing on his forhead is supposed to be? It's a highland thistle! It's considered to be Scotland's flower, if you will, and is a widely used symbol in Celtic art. I saw this belt buckle with a celtic knot in the shape of a thistle. It was one of the coolest/prettiest things I'd ever seen!
