Description

Glenda, otherwise known as Glade of the Legion of Superheroes, flipped through her personal photo-album of her friends and family with a fresh lump of untouched clay handy for molding. She had no idea why she enjoyed this extremely private hobby so much, but it was a personal thing that only select, lucky few ever got to discover about her. It was even rarer for them to see her collection of molded clay sculptures.

Each one was based off of a photo she had in her album and each finished one had its corresponding photo next to it. It seemed odd and old-fashioned to use photos since everyone in this day used holopic stands instead, but Glenda felt they were closer to the real thing than a 3-demenional, computer created image. Besides, her sculptures were supposed to be the only 3-demenional thing in the collection.

Every sculpture she had was an amazing replica of the photo she used to reference with, and her latest and most improved ones one might even say were perfect as Glenda’s perfectionist eyes only accepted those figures of that caliber. Some of her largest figured even had such details as eyelashes, single strands of hair etched out, and even a light texture to the skin and clothes. Though, while would want to advertise her work, she wanted to keep each and every one of the little sculptures she made as she made each as a reminder of something she knew she always wanted to remember. That was her current mission as of now.

She wanted to find a picture of someone close to her specifically, this time. Someone she missed and loved and wished to smile with again. Someone special… Her eyes stopped when she came across a picture of her dear friends Brainiac 5 and Galaxy Girl. Both were distant now, and it had been so long since she’d seen either.

She had to smile when she thought of Brainiac, or Brainy as she always called him when addressing him as her friend instead of her right-hand man. He was a bit distant and hesitant to show his emotions the whole time she’d known him, but she didn’t care. She was just like him at the time! However, the smile faded when she remembered his own personal mission he said he had to embark on to find himself as a human. It had been almost a year and no one had heard from him, but he promised he would be back. And she knew he would be! He never broke a promise.

Her thoughts wandered to Galaxy Girl smiling in the photo with him. Hers was a face long since recalled. She had left before Brainy had to help her homeworld, and everyone missed her dearly. She had been the first friend Glenda had ever had when she’d first joined the Legion, and over time the two seemed like sisters that had everything in common; but when she’d left, the letters and messages she’d received from her had shown Glenda just how different they were.

Perhaps it was their upbringing, their lifestyles, or something else of the nature; but Glenda suspected that perhaps Illya hadn’t changed. She had. Glenda was now the Legion Leader and things were different under her hand. She remembered the new… “discovery” she’d made in just the last few months: the man of her dreams. She remembered how he was an entirely different species and how different his culture was from that of Earth. She wondered what Illya’s reaction would be if she ever met him.

Zephyr was so different than perhaps Illya’s idea of the perfect man. Would she approve of him? What would happen if Glenda actually ended up marrying him? Illya always was sort of opinionated, but at the same time, she was often understanding as well. What would Illya say if she ended up leaving the Legion to become something else? Perhaps a politician, a teacher, or even just to settle down and have a family? Perhaps Illya had a new love interest herself?

A million questions swam around in her head as she remembered her friend. Did Illya think back and wonder about her? In that instant, Glenda knew which picture she would use.

With practiced ease, she kneaded the clay and began to shape it. Within hours, she had a nearly fully finished 3-demenional replica of the picture next to it. All it needed was a title. She gave one to every sculpture she made, but though she knew what she wanted for this one, she was unsure of how to word it. Which of the two was more correct or closer to what she wanted to remember through it?

She though back to her recollections and thought a moment. Perhaps things slipped from your memory in time, but do they ever really leave you? Just because one can’t recall the details of a life-changing situation doesn’t change the fact that that situation had changed the person’s life. Perhaps a person may not remember something, but she doubted they ever truly forgot.

Using a small etching tool, Glenda wrote the title in the blank, rectangular space she put on the sculpture.

“Never Forget…”
